Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. has given the Philippines Department of National Defense (DND) a proposal for equipping the Philippine Navy's BRP Ramon Alcaraz and BRP Gregorio del Pilar with missile systems.

The BRP Alcaraz, which was purchased by the US Coast Guard and was renovated by the Philippine navy, is not equipped with any missile systems because "according to the US Foreign Military Sales agreement, arming a vessel with sophisticated weapons such as missiles requires the approval of the US congress."

While it lacks missile systems, the Alcaraz is equipped with two Bushmaster 25mm systems for defense purposes.

However, according to the source, it seems that the BRP Gregorio del Pilar (which was also acquired from the US Coast Guard)  will apparently be the first to be equipped with an advanced missile system.
