The New list of the World Top 10 fastest train as of year  2014. The fastest train list is based on commercial speed and here it is

Number 2: Shanghai Maglev Train

Maximum speed
Commercial Operation: 431 kilometers per hour (268 mph)
Non Commercial Test: 501 kilometers per hour (311 mph)

The top operational commercial speed of this train is 431 km/h (268 mph), making it the world's fastest train in regular commercial service since its opening in 2004. During a  test run on 12 November 2003, train  train achieved a  record speed of 501 km/h (311 mph).

Top 10 Fastest Train: Eurostar


Maximum speed 
Commercial Operation: 300 kilometers per hour (186 mph)
Non Commercial Test: 334.7 km/h (208 mph)

The Eurostar connects London and Paris, traveling under the English Channel as fast as 199 mph.
Eurostar is a high-speed railway service connecting London with Paris and Brussels. All its trains traverse the Channel Tunnel between the United Kingdom and France, owned and operated separately by Eurotunnel.

Number 9 Taiwan THSR 700T


Maximum speed
Operation: 300 km/h (186 mph)
Non Commercial Test: 315 km/h  (195 mph)

The trains were manufactured in Japan by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Nippon Sharyo, and Hitachi, Ltd., marking the first time Japanese Shinkansen trains have been exported overseas. 30 trains were delivered to THSR operator Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC), and are in regular service with a top speed of 300 kilometers per hour  since the line's opening.

Number 8: South Korea KTX-II

Maximum speed
Operation: 305 km/h (190 mph)
Testing: 352 km/h (219 mph)

Number 7: France's TGV Réseau

Train à Grande Vitesse

The Train à Grande Vitesse (TGV) is a France's high-speed rail service, operated by SNCF Voyages, the long-distance rail branch of SNCF, the national rail operator. TGV trains operate all over France, with various connections to neighboring countries. The TGV network is no longer centralized in Paris.


Top 6: Japan Shinkansen

Operation: 320km/h (199mph)
Testing: 443 km/h (275 mph)

Japan Railways

Japan's high speed trains (bullet trains) are called Shinkansen (新幹線) and are operated by Japan Railways (JR). Running at speeds of up to 320 km/h, the Shinkansen is known for punctuality (most trains depart on time to the second), comfort (relatively silent cars with spacious, always forward facing seats), safety (no fatal accidents in its history) and efficiency.

Top Five Fastest : Spanish AVE Class 102

Maximum speed
Operation: 330 km/h (205 mph)
Testing: 350 km/h (220 mph)

The Spanish AVE Talgo-350 is this first on the list to break the 200 mph barrier. Its 205 mph top speed makes trips from Madrid to Barcelona go by in the blink of an eye. The AVE Class 102 was constructed by Talgo with Adtranz (later Bombardier Transportation) providing the power car technology. It was principally designed for the Madrid-Barcelona line.


Number 4: China Railways CRH380A

Maximum speed
Operation: 380 km/h (236 mph)
Non Commercial Test: 486.1 km/h (302 mph)

CRH380A is one of the four Chinese train series which have been designed for the new standard operating speed of 380 km/h (236 mph) on newly constructed Chinese high-speed main lines.

Number 3: Transrapid TR-09, Germany

Maximum speed
Commercial Operation: 449 km/h (279 mph)

  1. But Shanghai Maglev is the fastest train till now with 430km/h speed and it was mentioned as 2nd in this blog. You can read the list of top 10 fastest trains for more specs.

    1. Don't be worry Shanghai Maglev train is still the world's fastest train but in the near future this will be overtake by Japan Maglev Train.
