The Asagiri-class destroyer was built during the 1980s for service with the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force. The ship is an extended version of Hatsuyuki Class Destroyers,  main  tasked with Anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and Anti-surface warfare (ASUW).
